Today is a new day and another opportunity to find clarity and self-acceptance in our recovery. Finding sobriety can seem overwhelming, but as we embark on the journey of reclaiming our lives, no matter how difficult or out of control it may seem at times, it remains vital for us to take each day slowly and steadily.
October 22nd is a chance for us to reflect on where we’re at mentally and physically, so let’s use this moment to pause and consider what steps (big or small) we need to take going forward.
Daily Reflections October 22
Finally, we begin to see that all people, including ourselves, are to some extent emotionally ill as well as frequently wrong, and then we approach true tolerance and see what real love for our fellows actually means.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 92
Compassion and understanding are a beautiful part of the human experience. In our imperfect parts, we are all vulnerable – none of us can claim full emotional health or spiritual purity.
Love is about treating others with kindness even when faced with adversity; it’s how we embrace each other in spite of who we may not be perfect versions ourselves. That kind gesture keeps the world spinning!
Reflections can often lead to realizations and re-evaluations of how we perceive and interact with each other in our everyday lives.
Looking within and facing the less pleasant parts of ourselves can be daunting, but it’s important to recognize and accept the reality that nobody is perfect–mentally, spiritually, or physically–and that when all is said and done, love is what we need most to stay afloat in life.
Love simply means understanding another’s unique circumstance and being present with them through whatever challenge they may be facing.
So let’s treat each other as such–by being understanding and patient, by offering a kind word whenever possible — let’s give more homage to love than ever before, despite any imperfections we feel from inside or outside of ourselves.
