Resentment is the “number one” offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else. From it stem all forms of spiritual disease, for we have been not only mentally and physically ill, we have been spiritually sick. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 64


As I look at myself practicing the Fourth Step, it is easy to gloss over wrongs done because they seem like Questions of Getting Even.

But if we continue with our old hurts and hates in life, resentment will block out any sunlight from entering your soul–so let go! You can’t afford these negative emotions anymore; what good does it do?


The Fourth Step is a process that can be hard to stomach. While it may seem easier to gloss over the wrongs you have done, this will only lead to more resentment and hurt.

It’s important to take time for yourself in order to heal from these old wounds so they don’t continue to affect your life or relationships with others. You deserve happiness and we want you to find it!
